Those of us who work in the electric utility industry realize that electricity has become a necessity of modern life. In today's Washington Post, Princeton professor Danielle Allen writes in an op-ed entitled "The God of Electricity" arguing that electricity is as important to modern life as fire was in the days before Edison. She powerfully demonstrates her thesis by documenting how desperate conditions have become for many Americans on the East Coast as the power outages associated with Superstorm Sandy have in places stretched on for more than a week.
